The last, 4th season, of the Armenian Premier League kicks off promising to be full of interesting turns. At present 5 teams are fighting for prize places and there is no doubt the teams are going to struggle toughly till the last moment. According to the outcome of these 9 match days the final look of the standings will be sketched out.
At this moment Pyunik is placing 3rd in the standings having 40 points in its possesion and falls only 3 points behind championship leader Ararat-Armenia.
In the last match spent in the framework of the championship Pyunik managed to steal a victory at the end of the game against Ararat and to make the points gained in away matches 27. It is the best result among the championship teams.
If we sum up our team’s performances in the previous 3 seasons we can note the first season Pyunik ended up 3rd in the standings with 15 points, in the second season it gained 27 points (2nd place) and in the 3rd one - 40 points (3rd place).
It should also be noted that Pyunik could lead the standings twice during the championship, after the 5th and the 10th days.
As for our most effective footballers in the current championship Pyunik’s forward is Erik Vardanyan (6 goals). Rumyan Hovsepyan and Mohamed Konate have scored 4 goals each.
In the previous match day Pyunik was free of matches and in the 28th match day our team is going to be hosted by Gandzasar-Kapan. In the ongoing championship Pyunik has a negative balance in the matches against Kapan team (1 win, 2 losses), in addition both losses our team has suffered at home.
The first match of the teams took place on September 30, last year in the 10 day of the Premier League when Pyunik managed to win the away match against Gandzasar-Kapan, 2-1. Our team’s Ruslan Koryan and Maksim Zhestokov stood out in that match.
Only 3 days later the teams met again this time in the postponed match of the 1st day which hadn’t taken place on August 5 because of Pyunik’s participation in the Europa League. The match was played at Republican Stadium where Gandzasar-Kapan celebrated victory, 1-0. Drisa Diarasuba who had played for our team in the previous season became the author of the only scored goal.
In the last match of the autumn part of the championship which took place on December 2, last year Pyunik performed unsuccessfully losing 1-3 at Republican Stadium. The only goal of our team was scored by Erik Vardanyan who scored a penalty kick at the end of the game.
The 4th match of the championship between the teams will be spend tomorrow at the Football Academy of Avan at 14:00.
It is worth to note that the upcoming match our team will play led by Russian specialist Aleksandr Tarkhanov who was officially appointed Pyunik’s head coach a few days ago.
