On the top of the standings of the Premier League of Armenia “a battle” among the leaders is continuing. On the scale there is a champion title as well as the qualifications of the Europa League for which several teams are struggling severely. At this moment Ararat-Armenia is leading the standings with 46 points and is followed by 3 teams at once, Banants, Pyunik, Alashkert who each has 43 points.

On the previous matchday our team managed to earn 3 very important points in a tough struggle during the extra time of the match against Gandzasar-Kapan. Goalkeeper Andrija Dragoevich greatly contributed to Pyunik’s victory pushing back Gegham Harutyunyan’s penalty kick. Our team’s newcomer Lasina Dao had his contribution too. He   came out as a substitute at the end of the match and shortly after appearing on the pitch could score a victorious goal and made his debut in Pyunik with it. The debut of our team’s new head coach, Aleksandr Tarkhanov, came out to be victorious too.

The remaining matches of the championship from now on are going to be a kind of “finals” for Pyunik. Already in the upcoming 2 matches tough trials are expecting our team; Pyunik will face the two challengers for the champion title, Alashkert and Ararat-Armenia.

In the previous matches against the reigning champion of the current championship Pyunik has won twice and lost once. Thanks to the advantage gained in the played matches our team is ahead of Alashkert in the standings and places 3rd.

This season the first match between Pyunik and Alashkert took place on September 19 of last year. It was the postponed match of the second day which had been put off due to the participation of the teams in the Europa League. Pyunik managed to win 2:1 the away match against Alashkert at Nairi Stadium. Our team’s Petros Avetisyan stood out at the beginning of the match, and the victorious header in the second half was scored by Maksim Zhestokov.

The next match of the teams was played at Republican Stadium on October 7 but this time luck was on Alashkert’s side. Artak Dashyan’s only goal from long distance decided the outcome of the match bringing a win to the reigning champion. By the way, before that match Pyunik was leading the standings but after the defeat suffered from Alashkert our team retreated to the 4th position.

And in the 3rd round Alashkert and Pyunik met on March 2, this year and it was the first match of the spring part of the championship. Already on the first minutes Arthur Miranyan made Pyunik advance opening its list of goals in the current round. At the beginning of the second half Denis Talalay doubled Pyunik’s advanatage making his debut with a scored goal.  Though the hosts could  reduce the score they failed to do more and our team celebrated its second away victory over Alashkert.

The upcoming home match against Alashkert Pyunik for the first time will spend at Etchmiadzin Football Academy. The match will kick off at 14:00.
