Stadium of Žalgiris and its history (photos)

Tomorrow on October 13 Pyunik will be received by Lithuanian champion Žalgiris in the fourth round of the Conference League Group H.

After 9 years our team will play again at LFF Stadium in Vilnius. Pyunik played at this stadium for the first time in 2013 in the framework of the second round of the Europa League where it lost 0:2 to Žalgiris.

Today our photographer visited LFF Stadium and prepared a photos from there, and we will also present a information about the stadium.

During the Soviet years the stadium was first named Lokomotyvas due to its location close to the Vilnius railway station.

The stadium reopened in 2004 and became the first private stadium in Lithuania to be rebuilt after the Soviet era.

After its reopening it was renamed Vėtra and became the home stadium of the local club Vėtra.

In 2010 after the dissolution of the club the stadium was given to the Lithuanian Football Federation and renamed LFF Stadium (Lithuanian Football Federation).

Later the stadium underwent various improvements due to which it received the status of a UEFA 3rd category stadium.

After the renovation of the stadium in 2012 new headquarters were built there, as well as the grass pitch was changed to an artificial turf. The pitch grass was once again replaced in April 2020.

The current capacity of the stadium is 5,067.

It has been the home stadium of Žalgiris Vilnius since 2011.

Besides Žalgiris another team representing the capital, Riteriai, has played its home matches at the stadium since 2014.

Since 2012, the Lithuania national team has also held its home matches at LFF Stadium.

The stadium is also the venue of the Dancing Day of the Lithuanian Song Festival.
