Introducing our opponent: FC Veres

The next opponent of Pyunik on Saturday is Veres from the city of Rivne. The club was founded in 1957, played in the second league of the USSR, where the club twice became a bronze medalist (1981 and 1990), in 1991 it played in the final of the URSR Cup. In 1992, the team made its debut in the highest Ukrainian league, and the following season was marked by a memorable game, victories over the leaders of the championship and in the Cup.

In 2011, the club faced a crisis and lost its professional status. However, thanks to the fans, Veres was reborn as the ‘people's team’ in 2015 and returned to the strongest division of the country in two years. They finished the 2017/18 season in sixth place of the UPL. Veres is the first club in Ukrainian football with the status of a public joint stock company. In 2021, an IPO took place and 100% of the shares were sold.

In the 2020/21 season, the team made an important step in the media space and opened itself to a new audience. This happened thanks to the inclusion of Dmitro Povoroznyuk, a football blogger who has 368 thousand subscribers on YouTube. He played five matches for Veres. In 14 games of the current season, Povoroznyuk was on the bench. At the moment, the club placed 10th in the table.

The Pyunik team consists of ex-Veres football players: central defender Anton Bratkov (16/17) and midfielder Roman Karasyuk, who played 34 matches for the club in 18/19. The head coach of Veres is Yuriy Wirth, ex-goalkeeper of the national team of Ukraine. The most productive in the 22/23 season is midfielder Dmitry Kletz, who scored 4 goals.

We are looking forward to the match!
