Our first rival – FC Samtredia: a member of the Georgian Premier League and the first club of Kakha Kaladze

Already today our team will play the first friendly match in the framework of the training camp. The rival is the Georgian Samtredia from the city of the same name. The club was founded in 1936 and took part in the championships of the USSR and Georgia under various names. Now Samtredia plays in the Erovnuli Liga, the highest division of the country, and currently places 9th in the standings.

The team achieved the greatest success in its history in the mid-90s and the second half of the 2010s. In 1995, the club became the runner-up of Georgia and for the first time participated in the European tournaments. Samtredia played in the preliminary round of the UEFA Cup, where they lost to North Macedonia’s Vardar.

The club twice took part in the Europa League. In the 2016/17 season, the team made its debut in the tournament as the Georgian runner-up, won the first match, but dropped out of the competition as a result of two legs. In the 2018/19 season, the club also completed their performance after the first qualifying round.

In the fall of 2016, Samtredia became the champion of Georgia and received the right to represent the country in the Champions League next year.

In 2017, the team won the Georgian Super Cup.

The name of one of the best footballers in the history of the country, Kakhaber Kaladze, a defender who played for Dynamo Tbilisi and Kiev, Milan and Genoa, is associated with the city and the club. Kaladze was born in Samtredia and played for the local youth team.

The record holders for the most matches played for the club in the current squad are Givi Ioseliani (82 matches) and Davit Kirkitadze (78 matches). The best scorer of the current season is Zviad Nachkebia, who scored 4 goals. At the moment, there are 4 legionnaires in the team, the lineup mostly consists of Georgian players.
