From Shirak to Yerevan: The impressive numbers and facts of Pyunik's excellent performances

After a one-year break, Pyunik was again named the strongest, winning the title of Armenian champion for a record 16th time. Experienced and skilled specialist Yeghishe Melikyan led our team to the championship for the second time.

Under the leadership of Yeghishe Melikyan, Pyunik spent the 4th season in the IDBank Premier League. In 36 matches, our team celebrated 24 victories, ended 10 games in a draw, suffered only 2 defeats, scored 84 goals and conceded 28 goals. The champion was the most efficient of the participants in the championship and had the most reliable defense.

The number of goals scored in this championship is the highest in the last 17 championships. The last time Pyunik had more goals scored was in 2006 when they shot 86 goals in 28 matches. Our team was most efficient in 1994, scoring 110 goals in 27 games.

Pyunik showed a number of impressive indicators in the championship and deservedly won the title of champion. Our team celebrated 10 victories with a big score, remained undefeated for 20 games from the beginning of the competition, celebrating 14 victories, drawing 6 matches. Pyunik celebrated 8 consecutive victories in the autumn part of the championship.

Our team suffered its first defeat only in the 21st day of the championship, losing 1-3 to Ararat-Armenia in the opening match of the spring part. Pyunik failed to score a goal only in one out of 36 matches (Van: 0-1). Instead, our team kept a clean sheet in 13 games.

The performances of Pyunik were also impressive at the end of the championship: 6 consecutive wins and 12 games unbeaten (9 wins, 3 draws).

After 14 years, Edgar Malakyan received the 4th gold medal in Pyunik

33-year-old Edgar Malakyan is a veteran of the team. He made his debut in Pyunik on November 11, 2007 in the match of the final day of the championship against Shirak in Gyumri. Malakyan played 149 games for our team in the Armenian championships, becoming the 7th most experienced Pyunik player. Sargis Hovsepyan leads the list with 365 games.

In the spring part of the previous championship, Malakyan returned to his home club after a long break, moving from Ararat. The experienced footballer received his 4th gold medal. He had become champion with Pyunik in 2008-2010.

34-year-old Artak Dashyan, who has recently moved from Pyunik to Noah, is also a four-time champion. He got the 2nd gold medal in our team. Before that, Dashyan had won the Armenian championship twice with Alashkert in 2017 and 2018.

Artak Grigoryan has won the most championships and is the most experienced player of the team's current lineup

Only 36-year-old Artak Grigoryan, who has become a six-time champion, surpasses Malakyan and Dashyan with champion titles. Grigoryan won his first gold medal in Ulisses in 2011, then he became champion 4 times (2016-2018, 2021) with Alashkert.

Artak Grigoryan, who spent his first season in Pyunik, was the most experienced of the championship participants. He could have become the 3rd player to cross the 400 game mark in the Armenian championships if he participated in all 16 matches of the spring part. However, the experienced footballer played 9 times, bringing the total number of games played to 393. Let's hope that Grigoryan will continue his performances and reach the desired mark.

Yusuf Otubanjo's remarkable indicators

Yusuf Otubanjo again stood out with his productivity for Pyunik in the ended championship, scoring a quarter of the goals of the team. The Nigerian forward became the team's top scorer in the league with 21 goals, falling only 2 goals behind Artur Miranyan. Let us remind that in the previous season he was also named the best scorer of the championship with 17 goals, sharing the place with Luka Juricic.

Otubanjo stood out with some remarkable indicators. First, he set a personal record for efficiency. With the number of goals scored for Pyunik in the Armenian championships (38), the Nigerian became the most effective foreign player in the team's history, surpassing the record of Brazilian Marcos Pizzelli (31 goals).

Otubanjo repeated the one-season efficiency record of the former Mexican forward Cesar Romero among foreign players. The latter had scored 21 goals for Pyunik in the 2014/15 championship and had been named the best scorer of the championship together with Jean-Jacques Bougouhi from Shirak. Otubanjo became the 8th Pyunik player to reach 21 goals in a season. The record holder is Arsen Avetisyan, the best scorer in the history of the team, who scored 39 goals in the championship in 1994.

In the ended championship, Otubanjo was the only one who managed to score two hat-tricks against Van and West Armenia. In the 31-35th days of the championship, the scorer of Pyunik didn’t leave the pitch without a goal, scoring 7 times in 5 games. He was the most effective in the spring part of the championship with 11 goals. Otubanjo was also the best in average efficiency (0.67, 21 goals in 31 games) in the league, surpassing Artur Miranyan (0.63, 23 goals in 36 games).

Otubanjo has already scored 98 goals in official competitions during his career, 42 of which were scored for Pyunik. We will be very pleased to witness the 100th jubilee goal in the European Cup matches.

Stanislav Buchnev is the most reliable goalkeeper of the league

Stanislav Buchnev took the whole hardship of the championship on his shoulders, reliably protecting the goal of our team in 31 matches, conceding only 24 goals (an average of 0.77 goals per game). The Russian goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in 12 of the games.

In the autumn part of the championship, for 5 games in a row, during 529 minutes, the rivals failed to send the ball to the goal defended by Buchnev. By all 3 indicators, Buchnev is the best among the goalkeepers participating in the championship.

Hovhannes Harutyunyan is the footballer who scored the most penalty kicks

In the matches with the participation of Pyunik 17 penalty kicks were assigned by the referee, of which 14 were scored. 12 of the 14 shots assigned to our team ended with a goal. Hovhannes Harutyunyan stood out with his efficiency, accurately scoring 7 out of 8 penalty kicks. It is the best result among the participants of the championship. Only Anatoli Ayvazov from Alashkert managed to push back Harutyunyan's penalty kick. Overall, Harutyunyan scored 12 goals in the championship, which is a personal record of efficiency for him.

Yusuf Otubanjo was able to succeed in 2 out of 3 penalty kicks. Edgar Malakyan, Artak Dashyan and Lucas Villela scored one penalty kick each.

2 of the 3 penalty kicks assigned to the Pyunik goal were successful. Ibeh Ransom from Ararat conquered the goal defended by Henry Avagyan, and Stanislav Buchnev pushed back one of the two penalty kicks to his goal winning the confrontation with Serozh Titizyan from BKMA.

The record results of Caraballo and Bratkov
On May 14, Jose Caraballo played his 100th jubilee match in the IDBank Premier League for Pyunik against BKMA. He became the first foreign player of the team to achieve such an indicator.

Anton Bratkov became the Ukrainian player who participated in the most matches (89) in the Armenian championships. The defender of Pyunik surpassed former Ukrainian player Andriy Cherevko with this indicator, who played a total of 66 games for Urartu and Impuls. Bratkov has played 33 games more than all Pyunik players in the ended championship. On May 21, Bratkov opened the score in the match against Noah of the IDBank Premier League.

in 36 matches of the 2023/24 championship Yeghishe Melikyan sent 31 footballers to the pitch, 9 of them were Armenians.
