Yeghishe Melikyan: This is a victory for all of us, but our game is not over yet

After the first leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round between Pyunik and Győr, Pyunik head coach Yeghishe Melikyan spoke at a post-match press conference about the victory, the opponent, the newcomers of the team and the upcoming away match.

“This is a victory for all of us, I congratulate everyone. I just don’t want to talk much about the game, because our game with this team is not over yet, we have played only the first half. Of course, it’s nice, it gives confidence, but we still have the second half at their place and we need to prepare seriously. As for the game, tactically we worked completely correctly. We blocked their strong sides, we didn’t give them a chance to turn their dangerous attacks into goals. Our plan worked out”, - Melikyan noted.

Referring to the opponent’s playing style, Melikyan emphasized:

"Physically, it is a very strong team and it resembles Kalmar. The away match is going to be very difficult. We need to prepare very well, very accurately, motivate the team, prepare psychologically. Discipline and playing quality must be at a high level. It’s going to be a tough game. They are ready, and as I said before, we didn’t have a good preparatory phase in order to be in good playing condition. I hope we will improve our shape with every game."

When asked by journalists whether Armenian football has grown in recent years, Melikyan replied:

"Yes, the competition has definitely increased. Armenian teams are working very well. Club presidents are making investments, which is very commendable. And today we see that we are able to compete with such strong teams and win. I don't remember such cases before, only one in a thousand. And now we enter the pitch and know that we can win."
