Pyunik reaches the quarterfinals of the Armenian Cup

Pyunik kicked off their campaign in the 2026/27 Armenian Cup season, facing Ararat Yerevan in the 1/8 finals.

It is fair to say that Pyunik resolved the outcome of the tie as early as the first half. In the 5th minute, Hovhannes Harutyunyan delivered a well-calculated pass to Viti, who charged into Ararat's penalty area from the right wing and set up Iman Griffith. The Dutch player made no mistake from a favorable position: 1–0.

In the 20th minute, our team managed to double the lead, with the goal-scoring attack once again orchestrated by Hovhannes Harutyunyan. He delivered a brilliant cross from the left wing into the opponent's penalty box, and Iasonas Pikis, winning the aerial duel against Volodya Samsonyan, headed the ball into Ararat's net: 2–0. With this goal, Pikis also opened his scoring account in the Armenian Cup tournament.

In the 32nd minute, the previous goal-scoring attack was virtually mirrored: this time, Hovhannes Harutyunyan found Mikhail Kovalenko, who had joined the attack down the left flank, with a stellar pass. Kovalenko then directed the ball to Iasonas Pikis waiting in the penalty area, and our team's striker once again found the net with a header past goalkeeper Nikita Lobusov: 3–0.

Throughout the entire first half, Pyunik held a dominant advantage over their opponents and could have gone into the break with an even larger lead.

The picture remained unchanged after the interval. Pyunik, refusing to settle for what they had achieved, continued to keep Ararat's goal under constant pressure.

In the 55th minute, Serhiy Vakulenko played a cross-field pass to Mikhail Kovalenko on the left wing, who immediately lofted the ball into the opponent's penalty area, where Gevorg Tarakhchyan scored a magnificent goal with a bicycle kick, making it 4–0. Undoubtedly, this was the most beautiful goal scored by our team this season.

While many were still admiring Gevorg Tarakhchyan's goal, just two minutes later, Pyunik extended the lead to 5–0. Viti executed a one-two pass with Hovhannes Harutyunyan, entered Ararat's penalty box, and passed to Iasonas Pikis, who managed to score on his second attempt. Notably, this marked the Cypriot forward's first career hat-trick.

In the 62nd minute, Ararat's players managed to get on the scoreboard. Edgar Movsesyan delivered a corner kick into Pyunik's penalty area, and Divine Ukadike headed the ball into the net guarded by Stanislav Buchnev: 5–1.

However, seven minutes later, Pyunik pushed the scoreline even further. Gevorg Tarakhchyan was first to reach Robert Darbinyan's cross into Ararat's penalty area and laid the ball off to substitute Edgar Malakyan, with our team's captain making it 6–1.

In the remaining time of the match, Ararat managed to score once more, courtesy of high individual skill shown by Patrick Handzongo.

Pyunik secured a confident 6–2 victory and booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Armenian Cup.
