In the 13th round of the Armenian Premier League, Pyunik played away against Van in Charentsavan.
Having defeated Urartu in the Yerevan derby in the previous round, our team had strengthened their position at the top of the table and arrived in Charentsavan with the sole intention of returning with 3 points.
Interestingly, the last time Pyunik defeated Van in Charentsavan was more than two years ago, on October 6, 2024, claiming a 3-1 away victory. However, the subsequent two visits had ended in defeats for Pyunik.
Looking ahead, the picture was completely different this time, as Pyunik maintained both playing and territorial dominance throughout the entire match.
In the 11th minute, Daniil Kulikov played a brilliant, disguised pass to put Witi one-on-one with Van's goalkeeper, Danila Bokov. The latter had no choice but to commit a foul, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Our team's regular penalty taker, Daniil Kulikov, stepped up and made no mistake — 0-1.
Pyunik could have doubled their lead in the 25th minute, but Iman Griffith dragged his shot slightly wide from a promising position.
After the interval, Pyunik began to attack with more urgency, creating several threatening moments in front of Van's goal. Iasonas Pikis and Witi were particularly active in our team's frontline.
In the 53rd minute, Iman Griffith dispossessed an opponent and immediately set up Pikis in a striking position. Danila Bokov barely managed to parry Pikis's powerful shot, and Gevorg Tarakhchyan, rushing to the rebound, could not find the target.
Nevertheless, in the 66th minute, Iasonas Pikis managed to score yet another goal in the championship. Our forward broke free from the surrounding defenders near Van's penalty area and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper — 0-2.
Minutes later, Witi came close to scoring, but his header from a comfortable position went over the bar. In the next attack, he made a long run down the right flank and entered Van's penalty box, but his shot was blocked by opponent Chimuka Lwendo.
However, in the 73rd minute, our players scored the third goal of the match to seal the victory. Vyacheslav Afyan, who came on as a substitute, beat a Van player with his pace and passed the ball to Iman Griffith, and the Dutch player made it 0-3 with an unstoppable strike from just outside the penalty box.
Notably, late in the game, 18-year-old Vardan Melikyan, a product of our academy, came on as a substitute for Pyunik, making his debut in the Armenian Premier League.
Pyunik claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Van, once again leveling on points with league leaders Noah, who will host Shirak Gyumri later this round.
It is worth adding that following this round, the teams will head into the international break. After the resumption of the championship on November 22, Pyunik will host Sardarapat.
