Ararat-Armenia vs Pyunik: Match preview

30 September, 19:00, Yerevan, Avan Football Academy, Matchday 9

In a match postponed from the first matchday of the Premier League Pyunik defeated 3-1 Vanadzor’s Lori. Our team was able to break the unpleasant statistics of home matches against Lori as in three home matches of the previous championship (including the cup match) our team had lost to Vanadzor team.

In the match against Lori our team’s defender Salomon Nirisarike spent his first match in Pyunik and made his debut scoring a goal. Steven Alfred also opened his goal score in Pyunik.

Our team’s forward Artur Miranyan scored his fourth goal in the current championship and became Pyunik’s top scorer. Overall, it was Miranyan’s 10th goal in the championships of the Armenian Premier League.

It should be noted that in the current championship our team performs a little unstably having for wins and the same number of losses in eight matches.

At present Pyunik places 6th with 12 points.

The central match of the round will be played in the upcoming matchday which will end the first round of the Premier League. Our team will be received by current champion Ararat-Armenia.

At the end of the previous championship the unyielding struggle for gold medals between Pyunik and Ararat-Armenia hasn’t been forgotten yet when the champion was determined only in the last matchday.

But before it as a result of a gross refereeing mistake in Vanadzor our team had lost two important points which became crucial for Pyunik and in the final list of the standings our team fell only a point behind Ararat-Armenia and lost the champion title.

In four matches of the previous championship played between the teams our team had an advantage: Pyunik won the rival twice, once it was defeated and once there was a goalless draw.

Moreover, its first match of the previous championship Pyunik spent with Ararat-Armenia when playing without its main lineup and with 10 players from the middle of the first half, Pyunik, however, managed to have a volitional victory, 3-1.

The away match of the fourth round was particularly memorable when in the championship race Pyunik had a brilliant victory 4-1 over Ararat-Armenia and after it began leading the standings.

In the current championship the first match between the teams will take place at Avan Football Academy on September 30 at 19:00. The match will be served by Henrikh Nalbandyan.
