In the third round of the Fastex Premier League, Pyunik played against Shirak in Gyumri.
This match was special because it was the last one for our team’s head coach Yeghishe Melikyan, who had taken over the reins of the Armenian national team. Melikyan was not included in the roster and watched the match from the stands. Therefore, Pyunik’s play was controlled by assistant coach Roman Monaryov from the technical area.
In the first half, Pyunik completely controlled the game, but our team lacked accuracy in the completion of the attacks.
Alemao could have stood out twice for Pyunik, but in one case his curling shot slightly missed the target, in the other Daniel Aghbalyan brought the Brazilian footballer into a shooting position with a wonderful and accurate pass from the bottom, but after his shot, Sokrat Hovhannisyan took possession of the ball.
Before going on a break, Wagner Gonçalves tested the Shirak goalkeeper's vigilance with a long-range shot, but this time Hovhannisyan neutralized the danger without difficulty.
In the second half, all of Pyunik's attempts failed to succeed too. In the 68th minute, after Xavi Moreno's shot, the ball hit the Shirak players, confusing Sokrat Hovhannisya,n and almost entered the goal.
In the 88th minute, our team lost the most real scoring opportunity in this game. Substitute Edgar Malakyan passed the ball into the Shirak penalty area from the left wing, then Daniil Kulikov headed it into the center, where Marius Noubissi surprisingly failed to take the unguarded goal.
In the added time, Marius Noubissi could have brought a win to Pyunik but, finding himself in an advantageous position, failed to shoot accurately.
A goalless draw was recorded, 0:0. Pyunik, having a big advantage in the game, unfortunately lost a good chance to win.
