Pyunik’s Unexpected Slip

In Round 22 of the Fastex Premier League, Pyunik played away against bottom-placed Ararat, who had managed just one win in 21 matches prior to this game.

Early in the first half, our team had a great chance to open the scoring. Ararat’s Malik Aziz fouled Eric Ocansey, and the referee awarded a penalty without hesitation. Edgar Malakyan stepped up, but unfortunately sent the ball over the bar.

After the break, our team’s dominance became clear, with attack after attack. Daniil Kulikov, Javi Moreno, Momo Yansane, Eric Ocansey, Lucas Villela, and Marius Noubissi all had real chances to score. Pyunik could have won this match by at least 2-3 goals, but luck seemed to turn its back on our side.

As often happens in football, the team was punished for missed opportunities. In the 4th minute of stoppage time, Ararat launched a quick counterattack. Kalifala Doumbia made a long run towards Pyunik’s penalty area, outplayed Aleksandar Miljkovic and Filipe Almeida with a single move, and calmly placed the ball into the far corner to make it 1:0. It was a cold shower for our team.

Pyunik desperately pushed forward to save the game, but ran out of time, and the match ended in a surprising victory for Ararat. Thus, our team suffered an unexpected defeat in the decisive part of the championship, which could be fatal in the future.

In the next round, on April 23, Pyunik will host one of the league leaders, Urartu.
