Pyunik won the Yerevan derby

In Matchday 23 of the Fastex Premier League, Pyunik hosted Urartu.

From the very beginning of the match, our team made it clear that they were fully determined. Especially after the bitter defeat to Ararat in the previous round, Pyunik no longer had the right to retreat.

As early as the 4th minute, Daniil Kulikov delivered a long and precise pass from his own half, sending Eric Ocansey through one-on-one. He could have finished the attack himself but instead passed to Momo Yansane, who was in a better position and scored into an empty net — 1–0.

Midway through the first half, Bruno Michel broke into our penalty area and went down in a challenge with Mikhail Kovalenko. Referee Artem Gasparyan showed a red card to our player for a last-man foul and awarded a penalty, but after a VAR review, he overturned his decision.

After the break, Pyunik continued to dominate, and if not for the outstanding performance of the opposing goalkeeper Andrija Dragojević, the scoreline could have been more emphatic.

Nevertheless, in the 64th minute, our team doubled their lead: Daniil Kulikov delivered a corner into Urartu’s penalty area, and Serhii Vakulenko headed the ball into the net to make it 2–0. Notably, the Ukrainian defender also scored in the previous meeting between the teams — also with a header.

In stoppage time, Urartu managed to reduce the deficit: Nikolas Kalukyan confidently converted a penalty.

Pyunik secured an important 2–1 victory and continues to remain in the title race.

The team of Artak Oseyan will play their next match on May 3 at the Abovyan City Stadium against the current champions, Noah.
