In the 2nd round of the Armenian Premier League, Pyunik hosted Van from Charentsavan.
In the opening round of the championship against Urartu, our team unfortunately conceded a goal in the final seconds, dropping 2 crucial points. Consequently, Pyunik had to avoid any slip-ups this time and secure their first victory of the season.
It is worth noting that the entire match against Charentsavan was dominated by our team, showing a significant advantage that was clearly reflected on the scoreboard.
In the 13th minute of the match, Pyunik managed to open the scoring. Karlen Hovhannisyan found Iasonas Pikis with an excellent pass, and the latter, shaking off the opponent's defender Javier Torres, hit the back of the net with a precise shot. With this goal, the Cypriot forward opened his scoring account for our team.
Before halftime, in the 40th minute, Pikis and Hovhannisyan swapped roles. This time, following a pass from the Cypriot, Karlen doubled the lead from close range, scoring his first goal of the current season to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Pyunik managed to send another ball into Van's net. In the 70th minute, after a brilliant pass from Hovhannes Harutyunyan, Sargis Metoyan went one-on-one with Van’s goalkeeper, Lucas Arseli. Following his soft shot, Arseli failed to clear the ball properly, and Gevorg Tarakhchyan rushed in to make it 3-0. Gevorg, in turn, managed to score after coming on as a substitute for the second consecutive match.
During the remainder of the game, Gevorg Tarakhchyan had two more chances to score, but in one instance his shot went slightly wide, and in the other, Lucas Arseli made an outstanding save.
Two other substituted forwards, Sargis Metoyan and Momo Yansane, also had one good scoring opportunity each for our team.
Notably, Hayk Tatosyan, a product of our academy, made his debut for Pyunik's first team in the match against Van. Interestingly, back in March of this year, he made his Armenian Premier League debut while playing on loan for the Charentsavan team.
Pyunik claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Van, earning their first 3 points of the current championship.
Artak Oseyan's team will play their next match on August 16, competing against the league newcomers, Sardarapat, who have won both of their opening matches.
