Gandzasar-Kapan vs Pyunik: Match preview

On the previous day Pyunik conceded 1-2 to Urartu at home in a match for the 7-9th places of the transition group.

It was Pyunik’s third loss in a row in the championship.  Last time our team had a series of more unsuccessful matches in autumn of the 2017/18 championship when Pyuink, led by Aleksey Yeryomenko, suffered five consecutive defeats.  

In the match against Urartu young players of our team Sevak Aslanyan and Daniel Aghbalyan made their debut in the Premier League, and Erik Azizyan, who became the author of Pyunik’s only goal, scored his first goal not only in an official match of Pyunik but in the Premier League.

As Pyunik’s head coach Roman Berezovsky said at the post-match press conference , the rest of the championship he is going to focus on testing young players who will soon join Pyunik’s main team.

On the 22nd matchday of the Premier League our team will compete with Gandzasar-Kapan which places 9 and falls 5 points behind Pyunik.

Let us note that in the current championship Pyunik besides Yerevan has also performed successfully in the matches against Gandzasar-Kapan winning twice in both rounds.

In the first match between the teams in the first round Pyunik could win 2-1. Pyunik’s Denis Mahmudov and Aras Ozbiliz, who opened his score of goals in Pyunik, stood out in that match.

The match of the second round took place on February 29 this year and it was our team’s first match of the spring part of the championship. Pyunik won 2-0 thanks to Aras Ozbiliz’s accurate penalty kick in the first half and Karlen Mkrtchyan’s long-range wonderful goal. By the way, it was our team’s head coach Roman Berezovsky’s first match at the helm of Pyunik.

Let’s add that the Gandzasar-Kapan vs Pyunik match will take place at Football Academy Stadium tomorrow on June 13 and will kick off at 18:30.
