The 2019/20 Armenian Premier League which was spent in a new format is coming to an end.

Though the best 6 teams still have to spend 3 matchdays, and the struggle for the prize places has restarted with a new strength the teams competing for the 7-10th places of the relegation group will end their performance after the upcoming matchday.

Unfortunately, the current championship was a failure for Pyunik although there were many expectations from Pyunik on the eve of the season and Pyunik was considered one of the main favorites for the champion title.

It should be noted that our team will miss the UEFA European Football Championship for the first time in 18 years.

Let’s recall that since the 2002/03 season Pyunik has regularly played in the European Championship.

In the 25th day of the Premier League Pyunik was received by Urartu and managed to win 1-0. Josef Oma Adah became the author of the only goal of the match scoring his first goal in Pyunik’s official matches.

With that victory our team broke the unsuccessful series of 4 consecutive defeats.

In the upcoming 26th day Pyunik will spend its last match in the current championship hosting Gandzasar-Kapan.

On September 17 last year Pyunik could win 2-1the first match of the first round between the teams. Pyunik’s Denis Mahmudov and Aras Ozbiliz, who scored his first goal in Pyunik, stood out in that match.

The match of the second round took place on February 29 this year and it was our team’s first match of the spring part of the championship. Pyunik won 2-0 thanks to Aras Ozbiliz’s accurate penalty kick in the first half and Karlen Mkrtchyan’s long-range wonderful goal. By the way, it was our team’s head coach Roman Berezovsky’s first match at the helm of Pyunik.

The last match between the teams took place on June 13 when Abdoul Karim Nikiema’s only goal decided the outcome of the match, and Gandzasar-Kapan won 1-0.

Let’s add that the Pyunik-Gandazasar-Kapan match will take place at the Football Academy Stadium on July 1 and will kick off at 19:00.
