Round 2 (Day 16). 11.11.2018 Lori vs Pyunik 0-1 Goal – Rumyan Hovsepyan, 58 (0-1)
The Armenian Premier League has gradually entered a decisive phase, and now every match is of a great importance. In the current championship Pyunik has to spend 10 matches - 5 home and 5 away matches. There is no doubt our team will try to gain maximum points in these matches.
In the away match against Banants of the previous match day Pyunik managed to save the game thanks to Rumyan Hovsepyan’s scored goal during the extra time and maintain the status quo in the standings.
In the penultimate match of the third season Pyunik will host “Lori” at Republican Stadium. It should be noted that the Vanadzor team is one of the toughest opponents of Pyunik in this season. In the championship the teams have had one victory each over each other and both in away matches.
In the 7th match day of the last year, on September 11, Lori could decide the outcome of the match already in the first half. The opponent conquered our team’s gate three times during the first 30 minutes of the game and maintained the victorious score till the end of the match.
And in the match of the second round Pyunik managed to return from Vanadzor with 3 points thanks to Rumyan Hovsepyan’s goal.
In the current season Pyunik’s and Lori’s roads also crossed in the quarterfinals of the Armenia Cup where Lori as a result of 2 matches (0-2, 1-1) qualified for the next round.
It’s strange but true that our team has lost 2 home matches (including the match of the cup) to “Lori”. We hope Pyunik will break the unpleasant tradition in the next match.
Let us recall that the disqualification of our team’s head coach Andrej Talalaev is over and in the match against Lori he will already have a right to control his team’s actions from the technical area.
Historical Overview
At the end, looking back at the history we want to note that during it’s existence one of Pyunik’s biggest wins was over Vanadzor’s Lori; on September 17, 2002 in the Armenian Premier League match our team managed to gain advantage scoring 13-2 at Republican Stadium. The authors of the firework of goals became Pyunik’s leading players, Karamyan brothers. Arman scored 6 goals and Artavazd - a hat-trick. Also our team’s Arkadi Chilingaryan, Miguel Angel Cicterna, Vardan Minasyan and Fernando Zakaryan stood out with one goal each.
