The Pyunik 2011-1 team, representing our academy, is participating in the 4th Konstantin Sarsania International Memorial Tournament in Moscow.
Our team started the group stage with a match against Chertanovo, where despite the struggle we showed, we lost 1:2. In that match our team’s Mikael Khangeldyan played effectively, accurately scoring a penalty kick.
Already in the second match, Pyunik 2011-1 proved that they did not join the tournament with the Olympic motto and are ready for serious competition.
Thanks to Artur Manukyan’s fantastic hat-trick, Arman Arakelyan’s and Mamikon Zhamharyan’s goals and the rival’s own goal, we defeated Forward 6:0.
It was noteworthy that our number 10, Artur Manukyan, stood out with a gentlemanly gesture, as before the game he promised to dedicate one of his goals to Kimi Galstyan, the media officer for Pyunik’s academy and women's teams.
In the last match of the group stage, our boys defeated Irkutsk 6:1, which allowed us to come 2nd in the group with 6 points. Narek Avetisyan and Artur Manukyan each scored impressive goals twice, while Mamikon Zhamharyan and Mikael Khangeldyan stood out with one goal each.
From our team, Artur Manukyan and Narek Avetisyan received a special award in the “Best Player” category in two of these three games: Artur for his play against Forward and Narek against Irkutsk.
Artur Manukyan is currently considered one of the two best scorers of the tournament, having scored 5 goals in 3 games. He has recorded 2 assists and “earned” two penalties.
The group stage matches of the tournament are ending on December 11, after which all the pairs of the next stage will become known.
