Simon Cup: The Pyunik 2010 and Pyunik 2011-1 teams finish the tournament with gold and silver medals

As it has already been reported, the Pyunik 2010 and Pyunik 2011-1 teams, representing our academy, participated in the Simon Cup tournament dedicated to the memory of the hero of the Artsakh 44-day war Simon Israelyan. Stepan Harutyunyan's Pyunik 2010 returned from the tournament with silver medals, and Davit Grigoryan's Pyunik 2011-1 recorded another achievement, one more time becoming champion.

The Pyunik 2010 team held two matches on the first day of the tournament. Our boys celebrated a 2:0 victory over the Celero 2010 team thanks to Albert Avagyan’s and Shant Khachatryan’s goals. Then our students drew the match with their peers from Academy (1;1), with Gagik Grigoryan scoring the only goal for us.

The next day, our boys beat Ararat-Armenia 2010 (1:0), but lost the other match of the day. Stepan Harutyunyan's team conceded 1:2 to their peers from Urartu.

In the match leading to the final, we competed with Torpedo Kutaisi and celebrated a win thanks to Hayk Grigoryan’s and Narek Davtyan’s goals.
However, in the decisive match, the Pyunik team lost to Urartu and became the runner-up of the tournament.

Daniel Gevorgyan from Pyunik 2010 was named the best goalkeeper of the U15 age group in the Simon Cup tournament.

The Pyunik 2011-1 team started the tournament with big wins. On the first day, our team scored 7 goals against the two opponents. The first match was held against Torpedo 2011 Kutaisi, where Aren Sargsyan scored a brace and Erik Hovhannisyan and Narek Avetisyan one goal each. In the second match of the day with Academy 2011 we managed to score 3 unanswered goals thanks to Mikael Khangeldyan’s, Aren Sargsyan’s and Narek Avetisyan’s brilliant performances.

The second match day of the Simon Cup was also successful for us. Davit Grigoryan’s boys defeated 4:1 Noah 2011; Aren Sargsyan scored a brace, Narek Avetisyan and Robert Dabaghyan stood out too. In the match with Urartu, the teams exchanged one goal each, with Aren Sargsyan scoring the only goal for Pyunik.

Our 4th victory in this tournament did not take long to wait. The final day of the Simon Cup began with a victory over Celero 2011, where Gor Barsamyan scored the only and winning goal for our team.

Our boys did not make a mistake in the decisive match. In the match against Academy 2011, Aren Sargsyan and Narek Avetisyan secured the victory for the Pomegranates. Pyunik 2011-1 won the gold medal in the U14 group of the tournament.

The Pyunik 2011-1 players, the champions of the Simon Cup U14 group, also received individual awards: Aren Sargsyan as the best scorer and the best player, Gevorg Abajyan as the best goalkeeper.

We congratulate our coaches and players on these results.
